Abu Dhabi Invests Big in Clean Energy Software Platform
Abu Dhabi's Mubadala just backed a company that helps 600+ renewable energy operators worldwide run better and smarter. The investment will help Power Factors expand globally as clean energy needs skyrocket.
Abu Dhabi is putting its money where the future is, and it's looking greener than ever.
Mubadala Investment Company, the emirate's sovereign wealth fund, just took a significant stake in Power Factors, a Massachusetts-based company that helps renewable energy operators manage their wind, solar, and battery storage projects. The investment adds to Mubadala's growing clean energy portfolio, which started over 20 years ago when Abu Dhabi founded Masdar, now a global renewable energy powerhouse.
Power Factors isn't building solar panels or wind turbines. Instead, it created Unity, a software platform that does something equally crucial: helps renewable energy companies monitor their equipment, analyze performance, and maximize how much clean power they produce.
The company already serves more than 600 customers across 70 countries, overseeing a combined 310 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity. That's enough to power roughly 230 million homes.
"As renewables portfolios scale globally, software-driven monitoring, analytics, and intelligent control become critical for optimizing performance, value and yield," said Abdulla Shadid, Mubadala's head of energy and sustainability. The fund now manages $385 billion in assets, with clean energy investments becoming a cornerstone of its strategy.

The Ripple Effect
This deal represents more than one company investing in another. It shows how the renewable energy sector is maturing beyond just building clean power sources to making them work smarter and more efficiently.
As countries race to meet climate goals, managing existing renewable energy infrastructure becomes as important as building new projects. Power Factors' technology helps operators catch problems early, reduce downtime, and squeeze more clean electricity from every solar panel and wind turbine they manage.
The investment also continues Abu Dhabi's transformation from an oil-dependent economy to a diversified powerhouse. Mubadala recently invested €300 million in Rezolv Energy to accelerate renewable projects across Central and Eastern Europe.
With Vista Equity Partners and now Mubadala as backers, Power Factors has the financial muscle to expand its reach just as the world needs better renewable energy management most.
The clean energy revolution isn't just about building more solar farms and wind turbines anymore—it's about making the ones we have work brilliantly.
