Africa's AI Contest Offers Youth $120K in Prizes

African youth between 15 and 35 years old have a powerful new opportunity to turn their tech dreams into reality while competing for serious prize money.

The Presidential African Youth in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Competition has opened applications for its 2026 edition, offering $120,000 in total prizes to young innovators across the continent. Hosted by Egypt's Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the competition invites teams and individuals to submit AI or robotics projects by June 30th.

This isn't just another tech contest. The initiative represents an official African Union strategy to position the continent as a leader in the Fourth Industrial Revolution, bringing together governments, industry leaders, and young creators to solve real problems.

Egypt joins South Africa as a host nation, building on the success of the 2025 showcase held in Johannesburg alongside the G20 AI in Africa Conference. The competition has evolved into a launching pad for African tech talent, connecting young innovators with global recognition and opportunities.

Participants retain full ownership of their projects while gaining access to mentorship, networking, and international visibility. Top finalists will receive recognition at the United Nations International Telecommunication Union's AI for Good Global Summit in Geneva this July, followed by presidential awards ceremonies in October.

The competition evaluates projects based on innovation, functionality, and real-world impact. Young people under 18 can participate with parental consent, ensuring the next generation of African tech leaders gets an early start.
