AI Platform Links Swedish, African Researchers Across 21 Nations

Finding the right research partner across continents just got easier for scientists in Sweden and Africa.

Umeå University researchers now have access to SASUF+, an AI-powered platform connecting scientists across Sweden, South Africa, and 19 other African nations. The system matches researchers based on their expertise, interests, and methodology, helping them build collaborative teams before applying for international grants.

The platform arrives ahead of a major funding opportunity. The SASUF-NRF Seed Grants for Intra-African Collaborative Research call aims to support cross-border scientific partnerships tackling shared challenges.

Creating a detailed profile unlocks AI-generated recommendations for potential collaborators. The system analyzes research interests, ongoing projects, and thematic focus areas to suggest the best matches across borders.

Researchers from 21 countries can connect through the platform. The network spans Angola, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, plus Sweden.

Scientists have until September 6 to register. Those who sign up can schedule meetings with potential collaborators before the virtual SASUF+ Beyond Borders matchmaking event from September 30 to October 1.
