Alabama Ice Cream Shop Builds Mile-Long Track for Wheelchairs
A small-town ice cream shop is breaking a world record with Hot Wheels track while raising money for off-road wheelchairs. For just $5, you can buy a piece of history and help someone with disabilities explore the outdoors.
An ice cream shop in Morris, Alabama is turning childhood nostalgia into life-changing mobility for people with disabilities.
RedCar Creamery opened last July with handcrafted ice cream and vintage car decor. Now owner Eric Pettis wants to break the world record for the longest Hot Wheels track while funding off-road wheelchairs through a campaign called "Tracks for Tracks."
The current record stands at 2,606 feet. RedCar is going for a full mile at 5,280 feet, nearly doubling the existing mark.
Here's where you come in. For $5, anyone can buy a piece of the track that will wind through Morris Field this September. Your section gets included in the official record attempt, and every dollar goes toward purchasing all-terrain wheelchairs for individuals with disabilities.
"This started as just something fun we wanted to do, and then it turned into 'How can we raise money for some charities and bring the whole community together?'" Pettis told WBRC.

The shop partnered with the Birmingham RC Association to create the fundraiser. Throughout spring and summer, you can stop by RedCar Creamery or catch them at local events to claim your piece of track history.
The Ripple Effect
What began as a playful idea is creating real freedom for people who can't access trails, beaches, or rough terrain in standard wheelchairs. Off-road wheelchairs open up hiking paths, sandy shores, and grassy parks that were previously impossible to navigate.
The beauty of this campaign is its simplicity. Five dollars gets you into the record books while changing someone's relationship with the outdoors. Kids can participate alongside adults, making this a true community effort.
"When you tell everyone you're going to hold a world record for $5, it's kind of hard not to get excited," Pettis said.
The record attempt happens this September at Morris Field. Whether RedCar breaks the record or not, dozens of families will gain access to nature they've never experienced before.
