All 130+ Passengers Rescued from Burning Bali Ferry

Every single passenger made it off alive when a ferry burst into flames in choppy waters between Bali and Lombok this week, thanks to swift action by Indonesian rescue teams.

The Putri Yasmin Ferry caught fire around 4:15 a.m. Wednesday while carrying over 130 people between two of Indonesia's most popular islands. Black smoke billowed from the vessel as flames spread, but rescue crews sprang into action the moment they received the emergency call half an hour later.

Muhammad Hariyadi, who heads the Mataram Search and Rescue Office, confirmed the remarkable outcome: all passengers were safe. "We have approached the ship and confirmed that all passengers are no longer on board," he told Metro TV after visually checking the burning vessel.

The rescue was far from easy. Waves towered as high as 13 feet, and the rough seas complicated every attempt to reach frightened passengers. But rescue teams didn't let nature stand in their way.

Multiple vessels joined the effort, dividing up passengers to get everyone to safety faster. A nearby ferry evacuated 30 people and brought them back to Bali. A search and rescue vessel transported 59 passengers to Lembar port on Lombok, while a naval ship picked up another 17.

The coordination between different rescue teams and vessels turned what could have been a devastating tragedy into a story of lives saved through teamwork and quick thinking.

This rescue shows how far Indonesia's emergency response has come. The ferry was carrying 114 passengers, 17 crew members, 44 vehicles, and 53 motorcycles when fire broke out, yet rescue teams accounted for every single person.
