Amazon Creates 19,000 Jobs in Italy Since 2010

When Amazon opened its Italian store in 2010, few could have predicted it would become one of the decade's biggest job creators in the country. Fifteen years later, the company has transformed into an economic engine supporting over 100,000 jobs and pumping billions into local communities.

The numbers tell a remarkable story. Amazon has invested more than 30 billion euros in Italy, with 5 billion coming in 2025 alone. That investment has created 19,000 permanent positions, making Amazon the largest employer established in Italy in the last three decades.

But the impact reaches far beyond Amazon's own warehouses and offices. According to economic research firm Keystone Strategy, Amazon's presence supports an additional 45,000 indirect jobs in construction, logistics, and professional services, plus 15,000 more induced jobs throughout the Italian economy.

Small businesses are winning too. Over 20,000 Italian small and medium enterprises generated more than 4 billion euros in sales through Amazon's platform in 2025. More than 40% of these successful sellers come from Southern Italy, bringing economic opportunity to regions that have historically struggled with employment.

The company recently opened a new distribution center in Jesi, in the Marche region, which will create over 1,000 additional jobs once fully operational. Amazon employees also benefit from Career Choice, a training program that has helped over 4,000 workers since 2014 develop new skills for career advancement.

The Ripple Effect

Amazon's investments have generated over 23 billion euros in added value for Italy's GDP since 2010, with 4 billion coming in 2025 alone. The company contributed 1.8 billion euros in tax revenue last year, funding public services and infrastructure across the country.

The transformation extends to customer service improvements too. In 2025, Amazon delivered over 230 million products to Italian customers the same day or next day, bringing faster access to goods even in less densely populated areas.

Foreign investment like Amazon's plays an outsized role in Italy's economy. Companies controlled by foreign multinationals account for just 0.4% of Italian businesses but generate 21% of revenue and nearly 40% of private research and development spending, according to TEHA Group's Global Attractiveness Index.

What started as an online store has evolved into a network that creates opportunity for workers, entrepreneurs, and communities across Italy.
