Amazon Signs 199MW Wind Power Deal Across Sweden

Amazon is bringing serious wind power to its Swedish cloud operations, signing deals for 199 megawatts of renewable energy across five wind farms in the country.

The tech giant partnered with French investment manager Mirova and Swedish renewable energy company OX2 to secure power from farms scattered across Sweden. Three of the sites are already operational, delivering clean electricity right now.

The first three farms are part of the Saena portfolio. The Boarp wind farm in Jönköping Municipality will provide 17.5MW, while the Dållebo farm in Ulricehamn adds 18MW. The Fagelas wind farm in western Sweden contributes another 31.5MW, bringing the total from these active sites to 67MW.

The biggest piece of the puzzle is the 189MW Fagerasen wind farm in Dalarna County. Amazon will draw 132MW from this facility once it opens in 2028. Construction is already underway on the project, which was developed by Eolus AB and Dala Vind AB before OX2 acquired it last year.

The Ripple Effect

Amazon launched its Stockholm cloud region back in 2018, and these wind deals show how tech infrastructure can drive clean energy development. Every megawatt purchased creates demand that helps finance new renewable projects and accelerates Sweden's transition away from fossil fuels.

This isn't Amazon's first rodeo with OX2. In April 2025, the companies signed deals for 367MW from Finland's Rajamäenkylä wind farm and 105MW from the Honkakangas facility. They followed up with a 28MW agreement in Poland for the Annopol wind park.

Sweden has become a testing ground for Amazon's broader sustainability strategy. Beyond wind power, the company supports water replenishment projects in the country and partnered with SSAB on a green steel initiative that could transform how the construction industry sources materials.

The timing matters too. Data centers consume enormous amounts of electricity, and cloud computing demand keeps growing. By locking in renewable energy now, Amazon ensures its Swedish operations run on clean power while supporting the local renewable energy industry.

These wind farms will help power the servers that run everything from streaming services to business applications for millions of users across Europe.
