Amber Glenn, 26, Nails Season-Best Olympic Skate in Milan

Amber Glenn waited two decades for her Olympic moment, and on Thursday night in Milan, she absolutely nailed it.

The 26-year-old figure skater became the oldest American woman to compete in Olympic skating in nearly 100 years. Performing in front of a roaring crowd at the Milano Ice Skating Arena, Glenn earned a season-best score of 147.52 in the women's free skate, bringing her total to 214.91.

That score would have placed fourth at last year's World Championships. Not bad for someone skating on the biggest stage of her life.

Glenn's performance started strong with a commanding triple Axel that earned more than 10 points. From there, she built her program with confidence, skating to "I Will Find You" and "The Return" while landing clean jumps including a triple flip, triple toe loop combination, and triple Lutz-double toe loop.

Her only stumble came on the final jumping pass when she touched the ice with her hand on a triple loop landing. But that small mistake couldn't dampen the electric atmosphere as American flags waved throughout the stands.

The journey to this moment wasn't smooth. Coming into the free skate, Glenn sat in 13th place after an error in Tuesday's short program on that same triple loop element.

"It wasn't the pressure that got to me, it was just a literal lack of balance," Glenn told reporters afterward. "Stuff happens."

Glenn's story proves that Olympic dreams don't have an expiration date. While most elite figure skaters peak in their late teens or early twenties, Glenn kept pushing, kept training, and kept believing.

After Tuesday's disappointing short program, she could have let frustration derail her. Instead, she refocused on what mattered most: enjoying her Olympic moment.

"That six-year-old girl never thought I'd ever be here," Glenn said. "I told myself, 'You just skated, stayed on your feet at the Olympics.' I am proud that I was able to have that moment."

The 2024 Grand Prix Final champion came to Milan with the perspective that only years of experience can bring. She wasn't just skating for medals but for the pure joy of competing at the highest level after decades of dedication.

As Glenn punched the air at the end of her routine, the thunderous applause said it all: sometimes the wait makes the victory even sweeter.
