Apple Invests $12M in Clean Energy to Power 150K Indian Homes
Apple just committed $12 million to build renewable energy projects across India that will power 150,000 homes annually. The tech giant is proving that explosive growth and environmental progress can happen at the same time.
Apple is showing the world that growing your business doesn't mean growing your carbon footprint.
The tech company just announced a major expansion of its environmental work in India, starting with $12 million to develop over 150 megawatts of renewable energy capacity. That's enough clean power to support roughly 150,000 Indian households every year.
Apple partnered with CleanMax, a renewable energy developer that previously installed rooftop solar on Apple's offices and retail stores in India. Now they're scaling up to help Apple's supply chain partners make the switch to greener energy sources too.
But the clean energy investment is just the beginning. Apple is also tackling India's plastic pollution crisis through a collaboration with WWF-India that strengthens waste management systems and keeps plastic out of vital ecosystems.
The program started successfully in Goa with Saahas Zero Waste and is now expanding to new regions like Coimbatore. These facilities collect, sort, and recover recyclable materials while protecting the safety and rights of waste workers.

Apple is also betting on the next generation of environmental entrepreneurs. Through a partnership with Acumen, six green startups are getting mentorship and grants to develop circular economy solutions.
The startups tackle different challenges in creative ways. Saptkrishi helps farmers reduce crop loss with affordable storage, while Yotuh Energy builds electric refrigerated trucks for cleaner food and medicine transport. Mowo Fleet is training women to become electric vehicle drivers and entrepreneurs, creating new livelihoods in the green economy.
The Ripple Effect
These Indian initiatives are part of something much bigger. Since 2015, Apple has cut its global greenhouse gas emissions by more than 60 percent while its revenue grew by 78 percent during the same period.
That's the kind of math that changes minds. For years, companies claimed environmental responsibility meant sacrificing growth, but Apple is proving that's a false choice.
The company is on track to become carbon neutral across its entire global footprint by 2030. Every dollar invested in places like India doesn't just build renewable energy capacity, it builds a blueprint other companies can follow.
When tech giants invest in local infrastructure, support small entrepreneurs, and protect workers while protecting the planet, everyone wins.
