Arizona Athletes Hit Record 92% Graduation Rate
The University of Arizona's student-athletes just achieved their highest graduation rate ever at 92%, backed by a support team that treats academic success like championship training. The C.A.T.S. Program proves that winning off the field matters just as much as on it.
The University of Arizona just announced something worth celebrating: a record 92% graduation rate for their student-athletes, the fourth consecutive year they've broken their own record.
Behind those numbers is the C.A.T.S. Program (Commitment to an Athlete's Total Success), a team of academic advisors and career coaches who work behind the scenes while athletes take the spotlight. They're the ones making sure scholarships turn into degrees and degrees turn into careers.
The results speak volumes. This past fall, student-athletes across all sports posted a combined 3.412 GPA, the highest in department history. That marks 16 straight semesters with a department-wide GPA above 3.0, and 66 Wildcats earned spots on the All-Big 12 Conference Academic Team.
But Marisol Quiroz, who leads C.A.T.S. Academics, says they're not chasing numbers. "We are more focused on the process, working with the students, our relationships with them, and the environment that we create here," she explained.
The program starts the moment athletes arrive on campus, especially during their first year. Jennifer Mewes, senior associate director, says every student gets a personalized plan based on their sport, position, and schedule. Gone are the days of one-size-fits-all study halls.

The Ripple Effect
The C.A.T.S. team doesn't stop at graduation day. Sofia Read oversees student-athlete development, connecting players with internships, career coaching, and financial literacy resources that prepare them for life after sports.
Her team partners with Tucson businesses and organizations to create networking events and career nights tailored to what each student wants to do next. Some athletes are heading to medical school, others to coaching positions, and some straight into corporate careers.
"It's such an honor to be a part of a student's process," Read said. "I learn from them from a career standpoint and I'm glad we get to provide opportunities by partnering with the community."
The athletes also give back. Women's soccer players recently visited Diamond Children's Medical Center for Halloween, working on art projects with young patients and showing that being a student-athlete means being part of something bigger than sports.
These record-breaking numbers represent real people building real futures, proving that academic excellence and athletic achievement can thrive together.
