Artemis II Astronauts Share Stunning Photos from Moon Mission

Four astronauts are giving us a front-row seat to one of humanity's greatest adventures, and the view is absolutely stunning.

NASA's Artemis II mission launched just days ago, marking the first time astronauts have traveled to the Moon in over half a century. Commander Reid Wiseman, along with crew members Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen, are now sharing incredible photographs from their Orion spacecraft as they journey through space.

The images are nothing short of extraordinary. Wiseman captured Earth nearly eclipsing the Sun, with northern and southern auroras glowing at opposite corners of the frame. In the same shot, zodiacal light appears as a triangular shape, created when sunlight bounces off dust particles in space.

Another photograph shows Earth's terminator line, the boundary where day transitions to night across our planet. The crew snapped these photos after completing their translunar injection burn on April 2, 2026, which set them on course for their Moon orbit.

The four astronauts are also documenting life aboard the Orion spacecraft. One photo shows them answering questions from reporters during their first downlink event, giving people back home a glimpse of daily life in space.

Lakiesha Hawkins, acting deputy associate administrator for NASA's Exploration Systems Development Mission Directorate, says the crew is working closely with NASA's science team. They're planning which additional photos to capture once they begin orbiting the Moon during their 10-day mission.
