Auburn Firefighters Save 3 Pets From House Fire

When Jacob Akins' home caught fire on Friday afternoon, his biggest fear wasn't the flames consuming his Gaylord Street porch. It was losing the three furry family members trapped inside.

Thanks to mail carrier Peter Sigona spotting the fire and calling 911, Auburn Fire Department arrived at 1:45 p.m. ready to act. Firefighters quickly contained the blaze to the porch area, preventing it from spreading through the home.

But their work wasn't done. Inside, two cats and a dog needed rescuing.

As firefighters worked to ventilate the home and locate the pets, Akins paced back and forth on the street outside. His neighbors watched with him, offering quiet support as he waited for news about his animals.

One by one, the firefighters brought out the pets safely. The moment Akins was reunited with his third pet, a cat named Hallow, his relief was visible.

"They mean the world to me," Akins told The Citizen after getting Hallow back in his arms.
