Aussie Skier Jakara Anthony Breaks National Record

A 27-year-old from a small Victorian coastal town just rewrote the record books for Australian winter sports.

Jakara Anthony dominated the moguls competition in Waterville Valley, USA, this weekend, claiming her 26th career World Cup victory. That surpasses legendary aerial skier Jacqui Cooper's record of 25 wins, making Anthony Australia's all-time World Cup wins leader across all winter sports.

The performance was commanding from start to finish. Anthony was the only female skier to break the 80-point barrier, winning all three rounds of the event with scores of 80.04, 81.59, and 81.17 points.

Her final run featured technically difficult jumps including a cork 7 and backflip mute grab. She finished more than three points ahead of American Elizabeth Lemley in second place.

The victory extends Anthony's incredible form heading into the Milano-Cortina Olympic Winter Games next month. She's won three consecutive events and sits atop the World Cup standings with a commanding 78-point lead over her nearest competitor.

"It hasn't been the easiest comp this month, and the season's been all over the place," Anthony said after the win. "I'm just super stoked to put down a few really clean runs."

Her teammate Matt Graham currently sits second in the men's World Cup rankings, while Jackson Harvey rounded out another strong Australian showing with an eighth-place finish.
