After 42 years in aviation, Nari Williams-Singh marked his career milestone with a gift that will transform his community for generations.
The aviation veteran donated $500,000 to New Forest High School in Manchester, Jamaica, pushing the school's auditorium fundraising total to $7.2 million. The May 14th donation came during the school's third annual Spring Soirée for Education, a fundraiser that has become a community calendar highlight.
Williams-Singh's journey started at Calabar High School before launching his aviation career in Canada in 1984. He rose to leadership roles in civil aviation administration internationally, but never forgot where he came from.
"Aviation has provided me with opportunities through education, mentorship and discipline," Williams-Singh said. "I have always believed that such opportunities should be available to all young people everywhere, and even more so in rural communities."
The planned auditorium will serve the 10-year-old high school and six surrounding farming communities. The multi-purpose facility will also support indoor sports including netball, basketball, tennis and badminton, expanding opportunities for rural students who often lack such resources.

Williams-Singh's wife, Board Chairman Trisha Williams-Singh, said his generosity reflects the character she fell in love with. "I wanted an intellect as a husband, but one who cares and is willing to give back," she told reporters. "I got that and more."
THE RIPPLE EFFECT
The donation inspired others at the event. Past student Radcliffe Kirlew increased his contribution from $500,000 last year to $750,000 this year, crediting his high school Spanish teacher for sparking his language skills.
"My high school Spanish teacher, Mrs Lyle, sparked my first interest in Spanish and helped me to hone my talent in this language, which I am currently fluent in," Kirlew said. He urged other alumni to contribute because "every contribution, no matter the amount, can make a very meaningful difference."
Principal Arnaldo Allen noted the fundraiser's growth reflects the school's evolution since upgrading to a high school in 2015. The event featured produce from the school's farm and meals prepared by a local chef, showcasing community talent.
Williams-Singh said he hopes to see "some of the next generation of aviation professionals coming out of New Forest High School" in the next two decades. He encouraged others to view school support not as charity but as an investment in Jamaica's future.
The Spring Soirée raised $3 million this year alone, proving that when one person leads with generosity, entire communities follow.
