Bald Eagle Named Freedom Rescued on Bradenton Streets

A simple phone call on President's Day 2026 made all the difference for a struggling bald eagle on the streets of Bradenton, Florida. The four or five year old bird, grounded with an injured wing, found himself in downtown traffic until one observant person decided to act.

At 11:30 am, Bradenton Police received the call and rushed to the busy intersection of 8th Street West and Manatee Avenue. Officers found the sizable bird attempting to fly despite his obvious distress, while the Good Samaritan kept watch from a safe distance.

The eagle wasn't happy about his predicament, but officers carefully covered him with a blanket and secured him in the back seat of their patrol car. They quickly called Wildlife, Inc. Education & Rehabilitation Center in nearby Anna Maria, whose "talon-ted" team arrived with proper equipment to safely transport the bird.

The eagle was rushed to an emergency veterinary clinic, where vets discovered he was suffering from an infection in a previously fractured wing. Now named Freedom by the rescue team, the eagle received immediate treatment and is eating well under the care of certified wildlife experts. His rescuers say he enjoyed a rat for dinner after his ordeal.
