Bangkok Bus Captain Uses Megaphone to Clear Illegal Parkers

When taxis block bus stops in Bangkok, passengers wait longer and buses fall behind schedule, but one determined bus captain decided enough was enough.

Thitipha Khongming, who goes by Gigi, drives route 104 between Pak Kret district and Mor Chit 2 Bus Terminal. She's become a national sensation for her unique approach to clearing illegally parked vehicles from bus stops: a personal megaphone and a firm but polite voice.

"Have you finished? If yes, please leave the bus stop. Please put yourself in other people's shoes," she says in one viral video filmed at Central Lat Phrao shopping mall. The clip spread across social media last week, capturing hearts across Thailand.

Gigi focuses her efforts on two of Bangkok's busiest transit points: Chatuchak Park and Central Lat Phrao. These areas see constant battles between buses and taxis competing for curb space, with bus passengers often paying the price in delays.

Her megaphone works. Taxi drivers move on quickly when they hear her voice, clearing the way for buses to pull in safely and pick up waiting commuters.

"The bus stop is for buses. Why does the bus have to make way for vans, Grab cars and taxis?" Gigi asked in a Facebook post. For particularly stubborn drivers, she warns that she'll photograph license plates and report them to the Land Transport Department.

What makes Gigi's story so heartwarming isn't just her courage to speak up. It's that she's doing it for people who can't fight back themselves: everyday commuters who depend on public transportation.

Her advocacy has already created real change. After her videos went viral and she appeared on news programs, traffic police began helping clear vehicles from bus stops across the city. "Thank you very much," she wrote to officials and cooperating drivers on Friday.

Gigi also takes pride in her profession. She kindly corrects anyone who calls her a "bus driver," explaining that her official title is "bus captain" while fare collectors are "bus hostesses." It's clear she sees public transportation as a service worth respecting and protecting.

To anyone still parking illegally, Gigi left a simple message: "Anybody parking at bus stops can be sure they will meet me."
