CBAK Energy reported that its Dalian manufacturing facility cut combined greenhouse gas emissions by 9.6% in 2025 compared to the year before. Even better, the plant reduced total manufacturing energy use by more than 10% through smart equipment upgrades and process improvements.
The emissions drop beat the facility's own target by nearly half again as much as planned. The plant had aimed for a 4% annual reduction in emissions intensity but achieved 5.9% instead.
Solar power played a starring role in the turnaround. A rooftop solar system generated about 3.5 million kilowatt hours of electricity in 2025, and the factory used 92.5% of that power on site. That meant less electricity purchased from the grid and lower emissions overall.
But the real innovation happened inside the factory walls. Engineers improved how raw materials flow through production, which meant the plant needed less material to make the same number of batteries. That shift alone avoided an estimated 883 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions.

The facility also installed a closed-loop system that now recovers more than 95% of NMP solvent, a chemical used in coating battery electrodes. Every drop of that recovered solvent gets reused in production, eliminating waste and reducing the need to purchase new chemicals.
The plant handled nearly 979 metric tons of waste through proper channels in 2025 and faced zero environmental penalties. For battery customers conducting supply chain audits, that clean record matters as much as the emissions cuts.

These improvements ripple far beyond one factory's fence line. As electric vehicle makers face growing pressure to clean up their entire supply chains, battery plants that can prove lower emissions gain a competitive edge in winning contracts.
