Bayside Girls Win Conference Championship in Florida

A Florida high school basketball team just proved that talking to each other might be the most powerful play in sports.

Bayside High School's girls basketball team won the Cape Coast Conference championship on January 15, defeating Viera 51-29 in Palm Bay. The Bears jumped to an early 13-6 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, heading into halftime with a 23-10 advantage.

The real magic happened in the third quarter when Carleyssia Wallace exploded for 12 points. Senior Kamorah Sharpe followed with back-to-back baskets in the fourth quarter, sealing the victory for the Bears.

"I feel as if we connected better in the second half," Carleyssia explained after the game. "Just being able to talk to each other out there on the court and just communicating with each other."

Carleyssia led all scorers with 17 points, while Sharpe added 14 and Ellieyana Wallace contributed nine. But Carleyssia was quick to share the credit with her teammates.

"A little bit early in the game I was a little bit off, so I think me being aggressive and my teammates hyping me up pushed me to have a good game tonight," she said. "It wasn't just my efforts, it was my team's efforts."

Coach Jonathan Frazier's strategy of scheduling tough competition during the holiday break paid off in a big way. The Bears faced top teams from New Jersey to Florida, building the confidence and resilience they needed for championship moment.

"The girls worked so hard, from start to finish it was relentless effort, hardworking energy, and dedication," Frazier said. "This game right here shows them that those games weren't for nothing."

The Bears now carry a 13-8 record into district tournaments starting February 2. Their championship run proves that preparation, communication, and lifting each other up can turn a good team into champions.
