Ben Affleck Wins $1M for Congo Communities on Game Show

Ben Affleck jumped out of his chair and hugged his partner the moment they won $1 million for charity on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. The best part? Every dollar goes straight to helping Congolese communities through the Eastern Congo Initiative.

The Oscar-winning actor teamed up with Jamie Ding, a Jeopardy legend who won 31 consecutive games. Together, they faced the million-dollar question on Wednesday's episode hosted by Jimmy Kimmel: which names did NOT belong to turkeys pardoned by U.S. presidents.

"So we're gonna say D, Spaghetti and Meatball?" Ding asked after they talked it through. Affleck nodded in agreement.

The pause before the answer was revealed felt endless. Both men looked stressed, wondering if they'd made the right call. Then the correct-answer chime rang out, and they leaped up for an excited embrace.

The money will support the Eastern Congo Initiative, a nonprofit Affleck co-founded in 2010. He's spent the last 15 years working with the organization to support communities in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

"Right now, of course, as I'm sure most people know, there's an Ebola crisis there," Affleck explained on the show. "And so this is in large part designed to try to relieve that, contain the spread of Ebola."

Having Ding as a partner proved to be a smart move. The trivia whiz ranks fifth on the all-time Jeopardy winners list. Current host Ken Jennings still holds the top spot with 74 consecutive wins.

The Ripple Effect

This million-dollar win continues a beautiful trend. Just a year earlier, Affleck's best friend Matt Damon won $1 million on the same show for his charity, Water.org. He was paired with Jennings for his winning run.
