Bengaluru Art Show Raises Funds for Cancer Patients

When art meets compassion, the canvas becomes a tool for healing. In Bengaluru, 40 artists are proving that creative expression can save lives while protecting our planet.

The Bhoomi exhibition opened this month at two city galleries, featuring paintings, sculptures, and installations inspired by humanity's relationship with nature. Every piece sold splits proceeds between the artist and the HCG Foundation, which provides financial assistance to cancer patients who can't afford treatment.

Curator Bhagya Ajaikumar, founder of Swasti Contemporary Art Gallery, brought together faculty from Bangalore University and the Chamarajendra Academy of Visual Arts. The artists include renowned painter SG Vasudev, whose work has been exhibited internationally, alongside emerging talents exploring themes of identity and environmental change.

The timing couldn't be more meaningful. As climate change accelerates and healthcare costs rise, this exhibition addresses both crises through creativity. Nature-themed art helps viewers slow down and reconnect with the environment in ways that statistics alone cannot achieve.

A painting of a disappearing forest or a sculpture made from discarded materials communicates environmental urgency through emotion. These works invite reflection on Earth as the source of life and culture, not just a physical landscape.

The Ripple Effect

This exhibition demonstrates how one initiative can create multiple waves of positive change. Artists gain exposure and income while honing their environmental message. Cancer patients receive life-saving financial support through the HCG Foundation's treatment programs.

The foundation has been using art as a fundraising tool since 2007, when Swasti gallery launched inside HCG's Bengaluru headquarters. Since 2018, they've expanded to offer art therapy sessions for cancer patients and their families, recognizing creativity's healing power beyond just raising money.

Meanwhile, gallery visitors leave with heightened environmental awareness and tangible ways to contribute to both planetary and human health. The exhibition proves that supporting cancer treatment and promoting ecological consciousness aren't separate goals but interconnected parts of caring for life itself.

Featured artist Aishwaryan K, recipient of the Karnataka Lalit Kala Akademi State Award, works across painting, printmaking, and installation. His multidisciplinary approach reflects the exhibition's own blending of artistic excellence with social responsibility.
