Berlin Firefighter Catches Woman Leaping From 11th Floor

A Berlin firefighter made a breathtaking catch Friday morning when a woman jumped two stories from a burning high-rise apartment directly into his rescue basket.

The fire erupted around 6:30 a.m. in Berlin's Friedrichshain neighborhood, quickly engulfing apartments on the 11th and 12th floors of the 18-story building. Flames shot from multiple windows as thick black smoke poured into the sky.

Dramatic video footage shows the woman in sweatpants edging along the exterior ledge of her 11th-floor apartment, orange flames billowing just feet away. Two floors below, a firefighter positioned his turntable ladder basket directly beneath her.

She spent several tense minutes searching for a foothold to climb down, but couldn't find one. With no other option, she let go and dropped into the waiting basket.

The firefighter caught her safely. She walked away with only minor injuries and received treatment at a nearby hospital.

This rescue represents just one of 25 successful evacuations that morning. Firefighters worked tirelessly to bring every single resident to safety, using fire-escape hoods and aerial ladders to navigate the smoky stairwells and exterior of the burning building.

Berlin emergency services deployed 18 fire engines, two aerial ladder trucks, and nine ambulances to tackle the blaze. Despite the scale of the fire affecting 115 people, only 13 sustained minor injuries.

The coordinated response required dozens of emergency personnel working in perfect sync. Each firefighter, paramedic, and rescue worker played a crucial role in ensuring everyone made it out alive.
