Black Kitten Rescued From Car Engine on Halloween Anniversary

When a stranger started honking frantically at Nicole and her husband Brandon, they had no idea their lives were about to change. Something was dangling from underneath their car as they drove through Sandy Springs, Georgia.

That something turned out to be a tiny black kitten stuck in their car's suspension. The couple immediately pulled over and called for help, desperate to save their unexpected passenger.

Three firefighters and two police officers responded to the unusual rescue call. The stubborn little stowaway weighed just over a pound and refused to budge easily from his hiding spot.

Nicole, a high school journalism teacher, and Brandon rushed the kitten straight to the vet after the rescue. The veterinarian estimated he was less than seven weeks old and incredibly lucky to be alive.

The timing felt impossible to ignore. The couple had been married on Halloween, and here was a black kitten appearing in October, right before their anniversary.

"Adopting a tiny black kitten in October feels especially fitting," Nicole said. They named him Friday Shadow and welcomed him home as the newest member of their family.

Sunny's Take

This story shows how the smallest lives matter just as much as the biggest. Five first responders didn't hesitate to spend their time carefully extracting a one-pound kitten from a car.

Nicole wanted to celebrate these helpers publicly. "These wonderful first responders should get some recognition for going above and beyond to save such a tiny life," she told reporters.

Friday Shadow went from homeless and terrified to loved and safe in a single afternoon. He gained a family, and the couple received what Nicole calls "the most unexpected anniversary present we could have imagined."
