Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi Raises £53K for Cancer Unit

A guitar from rock legend Tony Iommi just brought a Birmingham cancer unit £53,000 closer to its dream facility.

The Black Sabbath guitarist, who beat cancer himself, donated one of his guitars to Heartlands Hospital Charity for a December raffle. The prize went to Shane, a fan from the United States, but the real winners are the cancer patients who will benefit from the new Haematology and Oncology Centre.

"In December, we had a guitar raffled for Heartlands Hospital for their Cancer Unit and I'm glad to say it raised £53,000, which is amazing, thanks to you guys," Iommi told his fans. The musician also encouraged others to join the effort, saying it would be nice if more people donated to give patients the help they need.

The fundraising campaign aims to collect £150,000 total to create a beautiful, modern space where cancer patients can receive treatment in comfort. Thanks to Iommi's generous donation, the hospital is now well over a third of the way to that goal.

The new center will include dedicated spaces for treatment and appointments, plus quiet areas and welcoming waiting rooms for patients and their families. Charlotte Schofield, Director of Fundraising for Heartlands Hospital Charity, said she felt overwhelmed by Iommi's support.
