Brandon High Schoolers Shatter 2 Track Records in 2026

When a freshman and a senior both break school records in the same season, something special is happening on the track.

Brandon High School celebrated two record-breaking performances during the 2026 track season. Senior Jacob Hylton, who has committed to Northwood University, smashed school records in both the 400-meter and 800-meter events with times of 50.08 seconds and 1:53.52 respectively.

Hylton's achievements topped records that had stood since 2023, when Nikolas Shilling set marks of 50.9 seconds in the 400-meter and 1:53.89 in the 800-meter. The senior's 800-meter time beat the previous record by less than half a second, showing just how competitive elite high school running has become.

Meanwhile, freshman Macy Lemons announced her arrival on the track scene by breaking a record that had stood for 12 years. She cleared the 300-meter hurdles in 47.37 seconds, topping Taylor Rieves' 2014 record of 47.75 seconds.

Both athletes earned spots at the Michigan High School Athletic Association Lower Peninsula Division 2 Finals at Hamilton High School on May 30. Hylton finished second in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.67, narrowly missing first place by less than a second. Lemons finished 17th in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 48.22 seconds.

These record-breaking performances show that athletic excellence can emerge at any stage of a high school career. Lemons proved that freshmen can compete with the best, while Hylton demonstrated how years of dedication pay off with a college commitment and state-level success.

Brandon High School's track program is clearly doing something right to produce record holders at both ends of the high school experience.
