Brazilian farmers are getting powerful new tools to feed the world more sustainably, thanks to a research and innovation boom sweeping the country's agriculture sector.

Leading agribusiness companies are pouring record investments into developing practical solutions that address everyday challenges on farms and ranches. Cargill Animal Nutrition now generates 53% of its profits from innovative projects launched in recent years, after dedicating nearly 8% of its revenue to research and development.

The secret to success is listening. Companies are starting their innovation process by talking directly with farmers and veterinarians to understand the problems they face daily, then building solutions that actually work in Brazilian conditions.

Cargill developed Galleon GPS Lite, a simplified AI platform that analyzes poultry microbiomes to help chicken farmers improve flock health. When researchers realized farmers needed something faster and simpler than their complex global system, they transformed advanced science into a practical everyday tool.

For cattle ranchers, the company created Probeef Semiconfinamento, combining five products into one package specifically designed for finishing beef cattle on pasture rather than just adapting feedlot systems. This approach of customizing global technology for local needs is paying off across the industry.

Ourofino Saúde Animal launched Safesui, Brazil's first single-dose vaccine protecting pigs against Glässer disease, a deadly bacterial infection. The breakthrough covers four strains common in Brazil and eliminates the need for multiple shots, saving farmers time and reducing animal stress.

The company also developed Nexlaner, the first Brazilian-made cattle parasite treatment using fluralaner, which is easier to apply and has a shorter withdrawal period than imported alternatives. These homegrown solutions reduce dependence on foreign technology while cutting costs for producers.

São Martinho increased its research investment by 75% last year to $40 million, focusing on corn ethanol production and biomethane generation from sugarcane waste. The company is also testing innovative biological pest controls using RNA interference technology to manage sugarcane weevils without chemical pesticides.

These investments are creating solutions that extend far beyond individual farms. Syngenta's new Virestina herbicide addresses weed resistance now affecting more than 100 crops in 75 countries, with grasses accounting for 40% of resistant species. The product controls weeds that no longer respond to common herbicides while breaking down quickly in soil for lower environmental impact.
