Bride Dedicates Wedding Bouquet to Grandma Instead of Toss

A bride just rewrote the bouquet toss tradition in the most beautiful way possible.

Bobbi Russo, 24, married Matthew Russo on January 31 at Windmill Winery Lake House in Florence, Arizona. The couple deliberately kept their wedding local so their grandparents could celebrate with them.

Bobbi's grandmother, Nancy Jones, 85, played a special role throughout the day. She helped Bobbi get ready, walked down the aisle with family, and had no idea her granddaughter planned a surprise that would move everyone to tears.

As the reception wound down, all the single women gathered for the traditional bouquet toss. Jones, whose husband died over a decade ago, stood among them waiting for Bobbi to throw the flowers over her shoulder.

But Bobbi had other plans. After the DJ counted to three, she turned around instead and called her grandmother forward.

"Just kidding! I wanted to dedicate my bouquet to my grandma," Bobbi announced. "You are the most selfless, kind person, and I'm so lucky I look exactly like you. You need to remember you deserve to feel special too."

Jones gasped and covered her mouth in shock before embracing her granddaughter. Both shed happy tears as guests watched the tender moment unfold.

The pair then danced together to "Forever and Ever, Amen" by Randy Travis, one of Jones' favorite songs. "She continued to cry as she was hugging me," Bobbi remembers. "She kept saying, 'I can't believe this. You didn't have to do this for me.'"

Why This Inspires

Bobbi chose to transform a wedding tradition into something deeply personal. "I know the bouquet toss is typically about 'who's next,' but I wanted it to be about where love began in my eyes," she explains.

The gesture hit especially hard because Jones is Bobbi's only living grandparent. The next day, when the newlyweds visited Jones, she told them she would remember that moment forever.

For Bobbi, the emotional reaction made everything worthwhile. "She has spent her whole life putting everyone else first, and I was honored to finally give a little bit of that love back to her."

Sometimes the best wedding memories come from breaking tradition to honor the people who shaped us.
