Bucharest Opens €150K Music Competition for Young Artists

The doors are officially open for emerging classical musicians to compete on a stage that has launched countless international careers.

The 2026 George Enescu International Competition announced its application period is now live, inviting talented young musicians to compete in Bucharest this August. This marks the 20th anniversary of the modern competition, which first began in 1958 and has since become a recognized member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions.

Musicians born after August 1, 1991 can apply to compete in four categories: violin, cello, piano, and composition. The competition runs from August 23 to September 19 at prestigious venues including the Romanian Athenaeum and the National University of Music.

The prize pool totals €150,000, but the real value extends far beyond cash awards. Winners receive mentorship from leading figures in classical music, performance opportunities with major orchestras, and coveted slots at future editions of the George Enescu International Festival.
