Burien Beach Cleanup Welcomes Volunteers Sept. 19

Seahurst Park in Burien is about to get a whole lot cleaner thanks to volunteers stepping up for the planet.

The Environmental Science Center is hosting a free beach cleanup on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 10 a.m. to noon. Anyone can join, from kids to grandparents, to help remove trash from the beach, walking paths, and hiking trails.

This isn't just a local feel-good project. The cleanup connects to an international movement started by the Ocean Conservancy, where thousands of volunteers worldwide remove debris from beaches and waterways on the same day.

Participants will meet near the playground and public restrooms, where a welcome banner will mark the spot. The event provides all cleanup supplies, though volunteers can bring their own gloves and buckets if they prefer.

There's even a creative twist: organizers are collecting unusual trash finds to build a Salmon Trash Sculpture. It's a playful way to highlight how debris affects local wildlife while turning waste into awareness.

Kids under 15 need to come with an adult, and anyone who hasn't pre-registered should arrive a few minutes early for paperwork. Registration is encouraged through the event link to help organizers plan ahead.
