Butler County NAACP Hosts Free Black History Unity Event

The Butler County NAACP is throwing open the doors to history, culture, and connection this Saturday with a celebration that costs nothing but promises everything.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Powerhouse gymnasium on Speedway Drive, families can explore Black history through hands-on activities designed to bring people together. Educational stations will teach hair care for biracial and Black children, while coloring stations introduce kids to Black inventors and their game-changing contributions to American life.

"We are excited to offer a range of activities and stations designed to foster stronger relationships and enhance understanding of cultural differences within the community," said Michelle Webb, president of NAACP Butler County Branch 4101. The event features a historical exhibit showcasing Black artwork, photographs, and cultural items that tell stories often left untold.

Attendees can sample traditional soul food dishes and jump into interactive experiences like karaoke with spoken word performances. The celebration aims to educate visitors about Black contributions to America while recognizing everyone's shared role in advancing civil rights.

The Ripple Effect

Webb's message cuts through the noise of division with clarity and warmth. "We are not just a Black organization; we are a Civil Rights organization," she emphasized, inviting the entire community to participate in building bridges.

The NAACP's mission reaches far beyond one day or one community. The organization works nationally to ensure political, educational, social, and economic equality for all people while dismantling systemic injustices that harm Black Americans and communities everywhere.

This Saturday's unity celebration reflects that broader vision in action. By creating a welcoming space where families can learn together, taste new foods, and see history through fresh eyes, the Butler County chapter is modeling what progress looks like on the ground.

"Let's silence the division, come together, and have a good day," Webb said. Sometimes the most powerful act of resistance is simply showing up, learning something new, and sharing a meal with neighbors you haven't met yet.
