BYD Sells Solar Kits at 233 Car Dealerships in Brazil

Imagine walking into a car dealership and leaving with a solar energy system for your home instead of a vehicle. That's now possible at 233 BYD locations across Brazil, where the Chinese automaker is breaking down barriers between transportation and clean energy.

BYD launched solar energy kits available to anyone, regardless of what car they drive. The company is using its massive dealership network to make solar power more accessible to everyday Brazilians, treating renewable energy like any other consumer product.

Each kit includes eight solar panels totaling 4.8 kilowatts of power, plus an inverter, mounting equipment, cables, and all the connectors needed. More importantly, the package covers professional installation, utility company approval, and a full year of insurance, eliminating the usual headaches of going solar.

BYD estimates the system will generate around 600 kilowatt-hours per month, enough to significantly reduce most household electricity bills. The actual output depends on local sunshine and roof conditions, but the standardized approach makes the decision much simpler for consumers.

"We structured a standardized solution to make this process simpler and more accessible, combining the essential components and services into a single offer," said Henrique Antunes, BYD Brazil's director of quality and value chain. The kits use solar panels manufactured at BYD's own facility in Campinas, São Paulo, keeping production local and supporting Brazilian jobs.

The company sweetened the deal for buyers of its new Song Pro Flex hybrid SUV. Customers purchasing that vehicle through Santander bank financing can add the solar kit for just 36 monthly payments of about $99, with no down payment or interest charges beyond standard transaction fees.

The Ripple Effect

BYD's strategy connects two of the biggest solutions to climate change: electric vehicles and solar power. By housing both under one roof, they're making it easier for families to electrify their homes and transportation together, maximizing their environmental impact and energy savings.

The dealership model could transform how people think about solar energy. Instead of researching installers and comparing quotes from multiple companies, customers can now get everything in one visit to a familiar retail location, with financing options similar to buying a car.
