Bystander Chases Robber, Saves Elderly Couple in PA
A quick-thinking passerby chased down a robber and recovered stolen items from an elderly couple dragged during an attack in Upper Darby. The suspect later called police himself after seeing his photo on social media.
When an elderly couple was violently robbed outside a Pennsylvania grocery store, a stranger refused to let the attacker get away.
The couple was walking toward H-Mart in Upper Darby last Friday morning when a man lunged at the husband and snatched his wallet containing $80. When the wife tried to help, the attacker grabbed her purse and dragged her along the sidewalk as he ran.
A witness saw the robbery unfold and immediately gave chase in his vehicle. He cut off the fleeing suspect in a nearby alley and confronted him, recovering both the wallet and purse before police arrived.
The wife suffered scrapes and abrasions from being dragged, but both victims got their belongings back thanks to the passerby's brave intervention. Police quickly reviewed surveillance footage and posted images of the suspect on social media.

What happened next surprised everyone. Keith Brinson, 47, saw himself being sought online and called the police station to turn himself in.
When officers told him to come to headquarters, he asked if they could give him a ride. Police Superintendent Timothy Bernhardt personally picked him up and brought him in.
Brinson identified himself in the surveillance images and was charged with robbery, assault, theft, and receiving stolen property. He remains in Delaware County prison on $75,000 bail awaiting his preliminary hearing.
Sunny's Take
In a moment when someone could have looked away or assumed someone else would help, this Good Samaritan chose action over inaction. His quick thinking meant an elderly couple got justice and their stolen items back instead of just becoming another crime statistic.
The response shows what happens when communities refuse to accept violence against vulnerable neighbors. Bernhardt thanked both the citizen who stepped up and the officers who quickly identified the suspect.
This story reminds us that everyday heroes walk among us, ready to help when others need it most.
