Bystander Stops Assault on 84-Year-Old in Manhattan Park

When an 84-year-old woman was attacked in a Manhattan park bathroom, a stranger nearby refused to look away.

On March 11, a witness in the restroom saw 30-year-old Ian Grandison allegedly assaulting the elderly woman inside a stall. Without hesitation, the bystander physically pulled Grandison off the victim and snapped his photo before he fled the scene.

That quick thinking made all the difference. Police used the photograph to identify and arrest Grandison at his apartment the same day. When officers showed him the image, he reportedly admitted, "That's me."

The intervention came at a critical moment. Grandison had allegedly pushed the victim to the ground and was attempting to sexually assault her when the witness stepped in. The elderly woman suffered injuries but survived thanks to the stranger's courage.

Grandison now faces $300,000 bond or $100,000 cash bail, with a court date set for April 15. He told police he had recently been released from Bellevue Hospital, though details about his treatment were not disclosed.
