Cairo University Offers 40 Scholarships to African Students

Cairo University is opening doors for the next generation of African leaders with a sweeping expansion of academic programs designed to build connections across the continent.

University President Dr. Mohamed Sami Abdel Sadek met with Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in early February to map out new partnerships focused on education, innovation, and capacity building. The collaboration signals a major investment in African talent and regional cooperation.

At the heart of the initiative are 40 scholarships for African students pursuing master's and PhD programs at the prestigious Cairo institution. The university is also launching a French-language medical program tailored specifically for students from Francophone African nations, removing language barriers that have historically limited access to specialized training.

The university plans to celebrate Africa Day in May with the official launch of an African Alumni Association. This network will connect graduates across the continent, creating mentorship opportunities and fostering collaboration long after students complete their degrees.

Foreign Ministry officials praised Cairo University's role in strengthening Egyptian-African relations and proposed expanding the partnership even further. Ideas on the table include online diploma programs that can reach students who can't relocate, joint academic programs between universities, additional undergraduate scholarships, and specialized training opportunities for African youth.
