Golfers playing at Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club during Rogers Charity Classic tournament

Calgary Golf Event Turns Birdies Into $1M for Kids

😊 Feel Good

A golf tournament in Calgary is transforming its 16th hole into a baseball stadium experience where every birdie scored triggers a $1,000 donation to youth programs. Rogers just kicked off the 2026 season with another $1 million donation to Alberta children's charities.

Every time a golf ball lands near the pin this August in Calgary, a thousand dollars will go to helping kids across Alberta.

The Rogers Charity Classic is turning its 16th hole into a Blue Jays themed fan zone for the tournament running August 21 to 23. But this isn't just about entertainment. Every birdie scored on that par 3 hole triggers an automatic $1,000 donation from Rogers to the Jays Care Foundation, which supports youth programs throughout the province.

Rogers announced Monday it's contributing another $1 million to launch this year's fundraising campaign. The telecommunications company has donated $1 million annually since becoming title sponsor in 2023 under a five year commitment.

The ballpark makeover at Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club celebrates the Blue Jays' 50th season. Fans will experience roaming snack vendors, a DJ, live organ music, player walk up songs, and meet and greets with former Blue Jays players, bringing the Rogers Centre atmosphere 3,000 kilometers west.

"This immersive experience not only celebrates the Blue Jays' 50th season, but will also help drive meaningful impact for families in Alberta," said Terrie Tweddle, Rogers' Chief Brand and Communications Officer.

The PGA TOUR Champions event draws top golfers competing for $2.5 million in prize money over three rounds. But the real winner is the community.

The Ripple Effect

Last year's tournament generated a record $26.6 million for Rogers Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink. That money supported counseling services, sports programs, and family services across Alberta.

Since the tournament began, it has raised more than $164 million for youth focused charities. The money reaches children through participating organizations that provide everything from mental health support to athletic opportunities.

Donations made to participating charities will be matched by up to 50 percent through August 2026, multiplying the impact of every contribution. Tony Staffieri, Rogers President and CEO, emphasized the tournament's extraordinary impact for communities, families, and children throughout the province.

Tickets are now available for fans who want to watch world class golf while supporting Alberta's youth.

Sometimes the best plays happen off the field.
