California Fights Back to Protect Clean Energy Jobs

California is refusing to let its clean energy future slip away without a fight.

Attorney General Rob Bonta announced plans to sue the federal government over a $1.22 billion deal that would cancel offshore wind projects off California's coast. The state has already invested more than $100 million preparing its ports and infrastructure for these renewable energy projects.

California's offshore wind plan aims to power 25 million homes by 2045, providing about 13 percent of the state's electricity from clean sources. The projects would create thousands of manufacturing jobs and drive economic development in coastal communities.

The disputed agreement would pay German developer RWE to abandon wind energy leases off California, Louisiana, and New York. The funds would then be redirected to natural gas projects instead of renewable energy development.
