California Fleets Order 60 Tesla Electric Semi Trucks

🤯 Mind Blown

Two California trucking companies just ordered 60 Tesla Semi trucks for port operations, marking one of the biggest commitments yet to electric freight hauling. The shift proves battery-powered big rigs are ready for real-world work.

Port trucking is about to get a whole lot cleaner in Southern California.

Big F Transport and NICA Container Freight Line just ordered a combined 60 Tesla Semi trucks through Forum Mobility, a charging infrastructure company backed by Amazon. The order represents one of the largest commitments to electric semi trucks from port operators who haul containers between docks and warehouses every single day.

Big F Transport committed to 40 trucks, while family-owned NICA Container ordered 20. Both fleets will operate from a new charging depot opening in Rancho Dominguez, California in early 2027.

What makes this order particularly interesting is that Big F Transport already runs nine electric trucks from competitor Daimler. The company tested the Tesla Semi in real-world conditions before deciding to switch, choosing Tesla for its next 40 trucks.

Jacky Lopez, CEO of NICA Container, says the investment shows commitment to next-generation technology for both customers and drivers. Her company operates out of major California and Texas ports, hauling containers on the short, repetitive routes where electric trucks shine brightest.

The new Forum Mobility depot will feature 14 powerful megawatt-class chargers designed to support more than 200 zero-emission trucks daily. Forum offers a one-stop solution for trucking companies, providing vehicle leasing, charging infrastructure, and energy management without requiring fleets to build their own expensive charging stations.

Tesla just confirmed last week that the first Semi rolled off its new high-volume production line at Gigafactory Nevada. The massive 1.7 million square foot factory can produce 50,000 trucks annually.

The Ripple Effect

The timing couldn't be better for California's air quality goals and the climate fight. Port drayage trucks typically run the same routes repeatedly, making them perfect candidates for battery power since charging needs are predictable.

California voucher program data shows just how popular the Tesla Semi has become. Between January 2025 and February 2026, the Tesla Semi received 965 applications out of 1,067 total submissions. Competitors Daimler, PACCAR, and Volvo combined received fewer than 100.

Tesla is building charging infrastructure to match demand, with 64 Megacharger locations now operating across 15 states. The company recently launched a Semi Charging for Business program with Megacharger units starting at $188,000.

Port operations produce some of the heaviest pollution in urban areas, affecting nearby communities with diesel exhaust day and night. Switching these short-haul routes to electric power means cleaner air for the neighborhoods surrounding Los Angeles and Long Beach ports, where thousands of trucks move containers daily.

Forum Mobility plans to open four additional shared charging depots this year and into 2027, expanding beyond California to serve more trucking operations nationwide.

The future of freight is charging up, one port at a time.
