California Neighbors Open Homes for Clean Energy Tour

Curious about heat pumps or induction stoves but not sure where to start? Three Bay Area neighborhoods are opening their doors to help.

On March 14, homeowners in Cupertino, Los Altos, and Saratoga will welcome neighbors into their fully electrified homes for a hands-on tour. Visitors can see heat pump water heaters, induction cooktops, rooftop solar systems, home batteries, and electric vehicle chargers all working in real time.

The Green @ Home Neighborhood Tour is organized by local Rotary Clubs, Acterra, and Silicon Valley Clean Energy. The goal is simple: take the intimidation out of going electric.

"Our goal is to take the mystery out of electrification," said Steve LeFevre of Cupertino Rotary. "When neighbors can walk through a home, see the equipment in action and talk candidly with the homeowner, it makes the transition to clean energy feel practical and achievable."

The tour runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and offers something most YouTube videos can't: honest conversations with people who've already made the switch. Homeowners will share the good, the bad, and the complicated about their experiences with contractors, installation timelines, and navigating rebates and tax credits.

Several homes will also showcase rainwater catchment systems and composting setups for visitors interested in broader sustainable living practices. It's all about seeing how these systems fit into everyday life, not just in marketing brochures.
