For Jimmy Magnum, the path to dancehall stardom began in his sister's Ontario living room in the 1980s, where his Jamaican brother-in-law hosted weekly dances that introduced him to the pulse of a culture he'd grow to love.

The Canadian deejay of indigenous heritage didn't just appreciate the music of Shabba Ranks, Super Cat, Yellowman, and Brigadier Jerry. He devoted his life to mastering their craft, studying the genre's rhythms and energy for more than three decades.

"To get a hit single in Jamaica would be a dream come true, because I have so much love and respect for Jamaica and the culture," Jimmy Magnum told the Jamaica Observer. "It would be the best thing that could happen."

His latest track, "After Midnight," produced by EMCE, draws inspiration from what he's witnessed in Canadian clubs. The song captures the electric transformation that happens when the clock strikes twelve and the dance floor comes alive.

Since launching his recording career in 2008, Jimmy Magnum has released numerous singles and a 2023 album titled "I Am." He's visited Jamaica three times, deepening his connection to the birthplace of the music that changed his life.
