Cancer Survivor Bif Naked Rocks Free Concert for Canada Charity

✨ Faith Restored

Canadian rock star Bif Naked, who survived breast cancer, stroke, and kidney failure, is headlining a free concert Saturday in Barrie to support cancer families. The event coincides with what would have been comedian Gilda Radner's 80th birthday.

When life throws everything at you and you're still standing, sometimes the best response is to crank up the volume and give back loud.

That's exactly what Canadian rocker Bif Naked is doing this Saturday in Barrie, Ontario. The musician behind hits like "Spaceman" and "I Love Myself Today" will headline a free outdoor concert benefiting Gilda's Club Simcoe Muskoka, one of only two Gilda's Clubs in Canada.

Bif knows the organization's work firsthand. As a survivor of breast cancer, stroke, and kidney failure, she relied on similar support communities during her own treatment journey.

"Us cancer people are crazy, and we're crazy about each other," she told BarrieToday. When the organization asked her to participate, saying no wasn't an option.

The inaugural Community Is Stronger Than Cancer Day starts at 11 a.m. at Heritage Park with registration, followed by a community walk and the 2 p.m. concert. The timing carries special meaning as it falls on what would have been Gilda Radner's 80th birthday.

During her treatment, Bif participated in programs that went beyond traditional medicine. She attended a cancer gym, joined bone density studies, and spent time in exercise trials that connected her with other patients.

"They were absolutely instrumental in my survival, not just psychologically and emotionally," she said. "I fully believe that they assisted in my recovery."

The Ripple Effect

Gilda's Club Simcoe Muskoka provides free social and emotional support programs for thousands of visits each year. Support groups, healthy lifestyle activities, educational workshops, and social connections are available to anyone living with cancer, their caregivers, and those grieving a loved one.

Every single program comes at zero cost to participants, ensuring financial circumstances never stand between someone and the support they need. Danielle Parks-Hamer, the organization's development and communications manager, says the event was inspired by members who found hope during their darkest moments and wanted to give back.

"Cancer affects far more than a diagnosis," Parks-Hamer explained. "It touches entire families, friends, caregivers and support networks."

The concert doubles as the kickoff for Bif's summer tour across Canada. Fans can expect a mix of classic hits and new music in what she promises will be "loud and exciting."

Nearly three decades into her career, Bif says she hopes she's grown both personally and professionally since her first tour in 1990. "I can only hope that I'm a better songwriter and a better performer," she said. "We keep getting older and I love it."
