Cancer Survivor Tackles 3 Irish Peaks for Charity

A brain cancer survivor is scaling three Irish mountains in three days to thank the charities that helped save her life.

Gemma Coffey from Cork was just 27 when she visited her doctor about persistent tinnitus in 2022. A scan revealed a brain tumor that would change everything.

Through radiation and chemotherapy, Coffey fought back. The tumor is now stabilized, and at 30, she's ready to give back to the organizations that supported her through the darkest days.

This May Bank Holiday weekend, Coffey will climb Croagh Patrick in County Mayo, Carrauntoohil in County Kerry, and Galtee Mór across the Cork-Tipperary-Limerick border. That's three consecutive days of intense mountain climbing.

"In 2022, my life changed when I was diagnosed with a brain tumour," Coffey said. "Thanks to the incredible support of three amazing charities, I was able to navigate one of the toughest chapters of my life."

All funds raised will benefit The Irish Cancer Society, Cork ARC House, and the Breeda McGrath Fund. These organizations provided Coffey with practical support, emotional guidance, and hope when she needed it most.

The Ripple Effect

Coffey's challenge does more than raise money. It shows other cancer patients what's possible on the other side of treatment.

Her story demonstrates that surviving cancer isn't just about enduring treatment. It's about reclaiming your strength and using it to lift others who are walking the same difficult path.

Every donation, regardless of size, helps these charities continue supporting patients and families facing cancer diagnoses. The funds will provide resources, counseling, and hope to people who need it most.

"I'm taking on a challenge that reflects the support, strength and hope they helped me find," Coffey said. Her three peaks represent not just a physical challenge, but a symbol of resilience for everyone touched by cancer.
