Casino Employees Plant Trees Toward 100,000 Goal by 2028

A casino resort in Cebu, Philippines is turning its employees into environmental champions, one tree at a time.

NUSTAR Resort & Casino recently sent 50 staff members into the hills of Talisay City to plant trees alongside the CAMMITA Farmers Association, a local group that knows the land intimately. It's the latest step in the resort's bold commitment to plant 100,000 trees across the island province by 2028.

The monthly tree-planting sessions launched as part of NUSTAR's broader environmental strategy to build a more resilient Cebu. The casino, which opened in May 2022, is owned by Universal Hotels and Resorts Inc, a private company under the Gokongwei Group.

What makes this initiative different is its grassroots approach. Rather than simply writing checks, NUSTAR is sending its own people into the field, building relationships with farming communities who understand which species thrive in local soil and climate conditions.

The partnership between casino employees and farmers creates unexpected bridges between urban hospitality workers and rural agricultural experts.
