Casper College Adds $173M to Wyoming Economy Annually

😊 Feel Good

A Wyoming community college is proving higher education pays off for everyone. New data shows Casper College pumps nearly $174 million into the local economy each year while welcoming its highest student enrollment since 2021.

Casper College is giving families and businesses in Wyoming something to smile about: more students, better jobs, and a massive economic boost that touches one in every 24 workers.

The school welcomed 3,476 students this fall, marking a steady climb back from pandemic-era lows. That's 100 more students than last year and the highest enrollment the college has seen since 2021.

But the real story is what happens after students walk across that graduation stage. A new study found that Casper College alumni currently working in Wyoming contribute $132.6 million to the regional economy and support nearly 1,900 jobs.

The math is simple and powerful. Associate degree graduates from Casper College earn about $10,400 more each year than high school graduates in Wyoming. That extra income doesn't just help families, it circulates through communities as alumni buy homes, support local businesses, and build careers.

The college itself employs more than 400 people, creating a $36.3 million impact through payroll and operations. Even current students pitch in, spending $4.9 million locally on everything from coffee to textbooks.

The school isn't resting on these wins. Over the past decade, Casper College has secured $40 million in outside grants to expand programs in healthcare, technology, energy, and skilled trades. This year alone brought in $2.8 million to keep tuition affordable and programs current.

The Ripple Effect

The college's impact extends beyond paychecks and job numbers. High school students across the region can earn college credit before graduation through dual enrollment programs, giving them a head start on both their education and their wallets.

Adults ages 50 and older have access to enrichment programs through the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, the first community college chapter of its kind in America. Art exhibitions and theater productions bring culture to the community year-round.

Of the 446 students who transferred to four-year universities this year, 88% chose to stay in Wyoming, attending the University of Wyoming. That means the state keeps its best and brightest, along with their future earning power.

President Brandon Kosine sees the college as more than just classrooms and degrees. "Whether you are a student pursuing a degree, a local employer seeking talent, or a community member exploring a new idea, you are part of what makes Casper College extraordinary," he wrote in the annual report.

Community colleges often fly under the radar, but Casper College shows they're economic engines that transform individual lives and entire regions, one student at a time.
