Celtic Lifts Fan Group Ban After Safety Pledge

Celtic Park is about to get a whole lot louder as one of Scottish football's most passionate fan groups returns to the stands this weekend.

The Green Brigade, a 200-member supporters group known for their vocal stadium presence, will be back in Celtic Park's north curve section starting Saturday's match against St Mirren. The group had been suspended since early November following safety incidents at an October match against Falkirk.

The road back wasn't quick or easy. It took four months of discussions between the club, the fan group, and Glasgow City Council's Safety Advisory Group to find a path forward.

Manager Martin O'Neill noted progress in February, and by late March, city officials confirmed they wouldn't object to lifting the ban. The key was getting the Green Brigade to accept three specific conditions.

The group had to commit to following all stadium policies and season ticket terms. They needed to agree to comply with safety and security operations. And they accepted that club officials would submit match-by-match reports to the Safety Advisory Group for as long as deemed necessary.

When Celtic presented these terms and asked for unconditional acceptance, the Green Brigade said yes. That one word cleared the way for their return at a pivotal moment in the season.

The Ripple Effect

The timing couldn't be better for Celtic. After Saturday's St Mirren match, the team has three more home fixtures this season, including a crucial May 10th clash against Rangers and a potential title-deciding match against Hearts on May 16th.

Interim chairman Brian Wilson expressed his relief at the resolution. "A full and united Celtic Park can get behind the team at this crucial point in the season," he said.

The agreement shows what's possible when passionate fans and club leadership work together toward common ground. Instead of a prolonged standoff, both sides found a way to prioritize safety while preserving the electric atmosphere that makes Celtic Park special.

For the Green Brigade members, it means returning to their seats and their role in creating one of European football's most intimidating home-field advantages. For the club, it means heading into the season's final stretch with their full fan base united behind them.
