China Grants Ethiopia $29M for Community Projects

Ethiopia just secured $29 million in grant funding from China to launch community development projects designed to improve daily life for ordinary Ethiopians. The agreement, signed Tuesday in Addis Ababa, marks another milestone in the two countries' long friendship.

Finance Minister Ahmed Shide and Chinese Ambassador Chen Hai finalized the 200 million RMB grant during a high-level meeting. The funds will support what both nations are calling "small but beautiful" projects, meaning initiatives that deliver visible results quickly rather than taking years to complete.

The grant comes on top of China's ongoing support for major Ethiopian infrastructure. Beijing has already invested heavily in public projects and continues backing efforts like the Ethio-Djibouti Railway and Ethiopia's planned new international airport.

Minister Shide thanked China for its sustained commitment to Ethiopian development through both project financing and foreign direct investment. He emphasized Ethiopia's desire to deepen the partnership even further, particularly for priority infrastructure needs.

Ambassador Chen highlighted several areas where cooperation will continue growing. These include an AI technology project and continued work on the railway connecting Ethiopia to the sea through Djibouti.
