China's $34K Electric Sports Car Packs 430 HP

The Small Sports Car Company just proved that electric performance doesn't require a six-figure price tag or massive battery pack.

Their SC01 sports car weighs just over 3,000 pounds, making it one of the lightest EVs on the market. That's remarkably close to a Toyota GR86 and dramatically lighter than most electric vehicles, which often tip the scales at well over 4,000 pounds.

The Chinese-built two-seater doesn't sacrifice power for its trim figure. With dual electric motors producing nearly 430 horsepower, the SC01 delivers performance numbers that would make traditional sports cars jealous, including a projected sprint to 60 mph in under three seconds.

The real surprise comes at the price point. In China, the SC01 sells for around $34,000, putting serious performance within reach of everyday enthusiasts. The car features a sophisticated suspension with independent control arms at all corners and even uses inboard springs and dampers, typically found on much more expensive vehicles.

With a 60-kWh battery pack, the SC01 promises around 300 miles of range. That's enough for weekend road trips without the range anxiety that plagues many early EVs.

The car launches first in the UK, where Chinese automakers are testing the waters before expanding further into Western markets. UK pricing hasn't been announced yet, and US availability faces uncertainty due to tariff complications.

The Ripple Effect

The SC01 shows that the future of electric vehicles doesn't have to mean everyone drives the same heavy crossover. As more manufacturers prove that lightweight, affordable electric sports cars are possible, enthusiasts gain hope that driving joy won't disappear in the transition to electrification.
