Chinese Driver Wins Debut Race in Italy for Geely

A Chinese driver piloting a Chinese-built car just won against the world's best on one of Europe's most famous racetracks, and it happened on the car's very first weekend.

Ma Qinghua took the checkered flag at Italy's Misano World Circuit on May 14, driving the all-new Geely Preface TCR in only its second race. Starting third on the grid, Ma battled past Honda and Hyundai champions to take the lead on lap six, then held it to the finish.

The victory stunned motorsports experts who expected the new car to need months of development. Instead, teammate Thed Björk joined Ma on the podium in third place, giving Geely two of the top three spots on debut weekend.
