Chinese Motorcycle Team Makes History at World Championship

A Chinese motorcycle team just did what many thought impossible, winning back-to-back races at one of the world's most prestigious racing competitions.

ZXMOTO made history at the World Superbike Championship in Portugal on March 29, securing victories in both World Supersport category races. This marks the first time a Chinese motorcycle manufacturer has ever won at this elite global competition, ending the longtime stranglehold of legendary brands like Ducati and Yamaha.

The man behind this breakthrough started with almost nothing. Zhang Xue grew up in a small village in Hunan province and began working as a motorcycle repair apprentice at just 14 years old. He spent countless hours taking apart engines and studying how they worked, dreaming of one day racing professionally.

At 19, Zhang rode over 60 miles through the rain just for a chance to showcase his riding skills on television. His persistence eventually earned him a spot on a professional racing team, where he worked as both a stunt rider and mechanic, winning podium finishes in domestic competitions.

But years of intense training led to injuries, and Zhang noticed something troubling. China's motorcycle technology lagged far behind global leaders. Instead of giving up on his dream, he changed it.

Between 2009 and 2012, Zhang worked at a motorcycle factory in Zhejiang province, learning every step of vehicle development. In 2013, he moved to Chongqing, China's motorcycle manufacturing hub, to start his own company.

Zhang founded ZXMOTO in 2024 with one ambitious goal: developing completely independent engine technology. His efforts paid off with the 820RR, a mass-produced civilian motorcycle powered by an entirely Chinese-developed engine. The racing version of that same bike just delivered the historic double victory in Portugal.
