The Queen Elizabeth Pub hosted a dog show fundraiser on August 29th for Animal SOS Sri Lanka, a charity that currently cares for 2,220 rescued cats and dogs at their sanctuary in Ahangama. Actor Peter Egan and TV presenter Jan Leeming served as judges for the competition, bringing star power to the community event.
Founder Kim Cooling organized the show to raise awareness and funds for the sanctuary, which rescues street animals suffering from serious injuries, disabilities, and abuse. "One of the nicest things is seeing how willing people are to get involved and support the animals," she told the Echo.
The competition categories told touching stories of survival. Riley, an elderly dog who once arrived at the sanctuary with a flystrike tumor, won Most Handsome. Addie, who came to the sanctuary as a puppy in a coma and was later adopted by Kim, took home Best Rescue.

Kim's journey began in 1998 when she rescued a dog named Rama while on holiday in Thailand. Determined to bring Rama safely back to the UK despite health risks, Kim discovered her calling to help vulnerable animals. She founded Animal SOS Sri Lanka in 2007, and the organization now feeds more than 2,700 cats and dogs daily, including sanctuary residents and strays in surrounding areas.
The Chingford event brought the local community together in a powerful way. Dog owners from the neighborhood entered their pets while volunteers worked tirelessly to make the show happen. A raffle added to the fundraising efforts, and the well-behaved pups made the day enjoyable for everyone involved.
