A ZipRecruiter survey of 3,000 college graduates and soon-to-be grads reveals a generation navigating intense challenges with surprising optimism. Entry-level jobs have become scarce, AI is reshaping entire industries, and young professionals are sending out more applications than ever while receiving fewer offers in return.

The AI revolution is hitting new workers especially hard. Nearly half of recent graduates say artificial intelligence has already impacted their field, with communications and tech majors feeling the pressure most acutely.

But here's where the gap widens. Only 23% of graduates received extensive AI training from their universities, leaving most to figure out these critical tools on their own. Female graduates face an even steeper climb, with just 19% receiving AI training compared to 29% of male peers.

The consequences extend beyond coursework. Young women are entering the workforce earning 80 cents for every dollar their male counterparts make. Nearly 14% of female graduates say their schools warned them about AI risks without teaching them how to actually use these tools professionally, that's double the rate of men.

Despite these obstacles, graduates aren't backing down. They're adapting their strategies, learning new skills independently, and staying focused on their goals. Many have moved back home to save money while job hunting, treating it as a strategic pause rather than a setback.
