Colombia Elects Conservative 'El Tigre' as President

After days of tension, Colombia's democracy showed its strength as progressive candidate Iván Cepeda conceded a razor-thin presidential election to conservative businessman Abelardo de la Espriella.

De la Espriella, nicknamed "El Tigre" by supporters, won by less than one percentage point in what officials called an extraordinarily close race. The businessman and lawyer had never run for office before this campaign.
